BioLite FirePit

August 26, 2020 by

A real review of BioLite’s FirePit from Campsaver. See the thoughtful and miraculously energy efficient BioLite FirePit in action.

Want to start a camp fire and relax knowing the fire would keep burning?

Yes that would be awesome!

After a couple dozen camping trips involving lighter fluid, fanning flames and readjusting wood, we invested in the BioLite FirePit sold by Campsaver. For as much camping as we do this thoughtful fire pit was well worth the investment, which was further justified by plans to use this even more often as a backyard fire pit.

BioLite’s FirePit is small enough to easily pack in the back of the car with collapsible legs. It is large enough to hold typical split firewood. A removable fan attaches to one end that can be recharged with a micro USB cord or by miraculously recharging itself from the heat of a fire. The fan has several speeds that circulates air from the top of the unit to the bottom creating a reliable source of oxygen that keeps the fires burning a very long time usually until very little is leftover. The fan coupled with an adjustable grate surrounded by perforated metal mesh creates an optimal height and habitat for a hot fire with ambiance. The fan can even be controlled via bluetooth allowing you to stay relaxed with your beverage of choice in your camp chair.

BioLite made cleanup is easy if you have water. The perforated exterior makes easy for watering down and draining. Plus, a trap door at the bottom provides the little ash to escape easily. The metal exterior rusts very easily, so don’t freak out about it and try to keep dry as quickly and often as possible.

All in all this is a must-have for regular campers that enjoy the tradition of s’mores, moonlight conversations and easy heat.

Pro Tips

  • Wipe down the unit after each use to cut down on rust, which occurs very easily.
  • Be careful using the grill grate to cook food as the fire is extremely hot, which burns food within seconds.

Canned Ham?

Vintage trailers from the late 50’s – 70’s developed the “canned ham” nickname due to their thin aluminum exterior often featuring unique curvatures. Shana is a canned ham.
